15 AugWhy the Apathy on Irish unity?
7 AugAs i see it, we are currently trundling toward a neoliberal version of a united Ireland. This is what the establishment parties, Sinn Fein included want. It’s definitely not what i want.
I live close to the Bogus Border. The pathetic gerrymandered line on the map, which was set out to divide us. I often hear people complaining about the Brits; what they have done in the past, and what they are doing now. For many, they are the source of all our problems. But they are not really.
The biggest obstacle to Irish Unity is the mind-numbing apathy of the Irish people. Of course, their has always been a solid core of genuine Republicans eager for a 32 county sovereign Irish Republic, but their numbers are relatively small. The bulk of the people really seem like they don’t care. There is no sign of the passion the English showed for their sovereignty, when they successfully campaigned for Brexit. A victory obtained against all the odds. To defeat the might of the EU propaganda machine is some achievment.
The Irish middle class seem happy with the status quo. Happy enough wih FG, FF and SF. So shall we prepare for a 32 county neoliberal Ireland? Fek that!
The politicians and their ballot boxes are not going to deliver us a true Irish Republic. Not now, not ever.
We must build the Republic we would like to be part of in our own communities, without permission, or license. We must end the dependence on British social welfare, and move toward a future not dominated by the EU.
It’s time for Ireland to grow up.
